Hi! Welcome to Thrive Therapeutic Recreation and Consulting! I'm Tina Tytko, a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Registered Professional Member of Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (R/TRO), and member of the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA). I opened Thrive TR in October 2017 to offer people in Niagara meaningful Recreation Therapy services.
My education includes a Therapeutic Recreation Diploma from Niagara College, as well a Honours Bachelor Degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies -Therapeutic Recreation from Brock University. I have enjoyed teaching part-time at Niagara College in the Therapeutic Recreation Program and I serve on the Board of Directors for Therapeutic Recreation Ontario. I am a published author of a guide to starting a TR private practice in Ontario and I also work part-time in two hospital systems in Ontario as a Recreation Therapist on Transitional care, Complex Care and in Mental Health. I have also been involved in curriculum development, administrative and special event contracts, group programs, and consulting for Therapeutic Recreation departments in senior living and rehabilitation settings.
On a personal note, nothing makes me happier than providing quality Therapeutic Recreation to people who will benefit from my service. Each client is unique and has unique goals and abilities. I strive to help clients create a life of well-being and fulfillment.
If you or a loved one have experienced a change in life that may have left barriers to participating in recreation and leisure or is experiencing isolation and loneliness, contact me to help you or your loved one to thrive through a life of well-being and fulfillment.
For consulting services contact me for information on how we can work together to achieve your vision.
All Recreation Therapy staff at Thrive are supervised by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). The CTRS is a recreation therapist who has demonstrated professional competence by acquiring a specific body of knowledge and passing the NCTRC exam. The CTRS employs a scope of practice that is based upon theoretical constructs and applied methodology, and addresses a wide range of disabling conditions and illnesses. In practice, CTRSs apply this critical set of competencies and skill toward the total person and the life factors that are associated with a specific disability or illness. This association represents the interests and need of all Recreation Therapists across the country. Recreation Therapists use forms of recreation, leisure, and play as treatment methods to support purposeful and meaningful interventions that are based on individual strengths and values, and are guided by assessments. These health care professionals utilize the APIED (Assess, Plan, Implement, Evaluate, and Document) process to direct service delivery.
